Education

Education

One of the first questions you need to ask yourself is “What career is right for me?” Many variables need to be considered as you return to  find your place in the workforce. But unfortunately, many employers and governmental agencies will not hire you if you have a felony or multiple convictions. Check out the Michigan’s Attorney General’s Office web site, and then search, for example, “convictions employment” or “felony employment” to determine what restrictions may apply to you.

Depending on the career goal you choose, realize education is the key to your future, beginning with your high school diploma or GED. If you don’t have a diploma or GED, cfti.us recommends you get one as soon as possible. Your local school can tell you where GED classes are being held. And some outreach ministries, like cfti.us, will even help you with the funding. Look for a local church which offers jail and prision ministries. Don’t let lack of funds prevent you from getting your GED any longer!

Then consider online education as your next step. It’s flexible and convenient. A driver’s license isn’t even required so long as you have access to the internet. Remember, the more education you have, the brigher your future will be.

With today’s job market, you know it’s a challenge for anyone to find employment in West Michigan. And that challenge increases greatly if you have a criminal background. cfti.us has come up with some great online resources for you to utilize in making your resume “attractive”. And what’s the main ingredient in making a resume “attractive”? Education!

Online certification is an easy way to go. But let’s not forgot, employers want to also see college degrees. There’s some stiff competition in today’s workforce. Remember, you’re not the only one interviewing for that “dream career.” Many employers require their employees to have at least a bachelor’s degree, especially in the computer science field. Check out some of these popular online schools to obtain that much needed degree.
